Excellent connections to London and outside space were essential to Charlotte and Justin when buying their first home, which has been made possible because of the Help to Buy scheme. They have been renting an apartment at Riverside Park in Ashford since 2019 and are now in the process of purchasing an apartment in the same building. We caught up with them to find out what they love about living in Ashford and their experience with the Help to Buy scheme.
As a technical consultant working in London, the proximity to Ashford International Station is perfect for Justin. Justin: "I normally take a stroll through the park to the station, it only takes me around 10 minutes. The high speed is always reliable and on time." Charlotte works locally as a TA in a school, but is also an actress and teaches singing in the town centre in the evenings. Charlotte: "It's all up and coming at the moment so it's nice to just be out and see what's happening, the town is constantly changing. It's very easy to have people come over and get the train for a day or night out. We looked at so many other places and we came back here every single time because this place just has what we want."
As renters, buying an apartment at Riverside initially seemed out of reach for Charlotte and Justin. Charlotte: "A member of the team explained the Help to Buy process to us, she broke down the numbers and showed us how beneficial it would be and we didn't look back from it after that, especially as we're quite young. It's nice to have time to save up and pay the loan back and you can live in the comfort of your own home." Justin adds: "The Help to Buy scheme made the difference between us getting our apartment and not, it's very useful and the process was easy."
